One of my favorite things to do as a parent, when my son would let me, for you see he is almost 4 now and all grown up, was to hold him and sing to him as he fell asleep. He would be wore out and out of fuel, sputtering to his eventual nightly resting place. If he was fussy, then I could sing loudly and most of the time he would calm down. I would then sing softer and softer. Sometimes I would sing goofily and he would laugh in his sleep. I looked forward to this every night! These will no doubt be some of the most treasured memories that I will ever have with him. One night in particular, I was singing over him as I was dancing with him asleep in my arms. I could feel his body fully relaxed and trusting in me as I held and danced with him. It was a wonderful moment and I thought of how much I love him and how amazing he is and how he was perfect just the way the Lord had made him. I was thinking how much I enjoy him and how I couldn’t wait to get to know the man he will become. As I was thinking all of these things the Holy Spirit whispered to me, “That is how God loves you, only He is omniscient and wonderfully perfect.” I knew that God loved me; but to have this type of real life example and to hear the Holy Spirit confirm it to me made it settle down to a deeper place in my heart than I even knew was there.
